Day 3) Optimize for Search Engines

It’s Day 3 — by the end of today, you’ll be over halfway through with your Website Wellness Exam.

You’ve already heard of search engine optimization (SEO). I’m here to tell you that yes, SEO is still super important for website credibility and traffic. Investing in SEO takes time, but it is well worth the effort.

Consider this…

Social media algorithms change overnight.

Paid advertising drops off as soon as you stop paying.

In contrast, a solid SEO strategy can bring you valuable website traffic for years to come.

There are entire fields of SEO concerning content production, keyword research, backlinking, redirects…the list goes on and on. Today, we’re going to focus on just one aspect of SEO — what visitors see when your website appears in search results.

There are over 2 trillion Google searches per year worldwide. When your website appears in searches, are you 100% confident that the results are accurate?

To test your website search results, open an incognito browser window. Search for your website name.

(Pro tip: if you have a non-distinct name, search for your website + location.)

Which pages appear in search results? What content displays alongside the top results?

Test your Google results in three steps.

If you don’t like the results of your search, there are steps you can take to improve your search results. Depending on what type of website you have (such as Squarespace or WordPress), you can update search content directly in the website dashboard.

Day 3 is officially over, which means you’re over halfway through the Website Wellness Exam. You have just two days to go.
